As China speeds up the adoption of AI, Chinese tech company Baidu unveiled its artificial intelligence (AI) product on Thursday alongside other domestic tech companies.

China's top internet search engine, Baidu, announced in a statement that their AI chatbot Ernie Bot, which resembles ChatGPT, would be completely accessible to the general public.

Two AI businesses, Zhipu AI and Baichuan Intelligent Technology, also announced that their chatbots would go live on Thursday.

All three claimed that the government had approved their items.

China demands corporations to file security evaluations and obtain certification before releasing mass-market AI products, in contrast to Western nations where this is not required, according to Reuters.

As AI increasingly becomes a focus of competition with the US, authorities have recently increased measures to encourage enterprises in their development.

According to Chinese media, the government had approved 11 businesses in all, including SenseTime Group and ByteDance, the creators of TikTok. Requests for comment were not immediately answered by either business.

After China announced a set of temporary regulations governing generative AI products for the general market, which became effective on August 15, regulatory approvals were eagerly expected.

Prior to the new laws, businesses could only test AI products on a modest scale in public, but as a result of adding more features and increasing marketing efforts, businesses have expanded the scope of their tests of AI goods.
