The hockey team from Pakistan has managed to take the top spot in Asia Hockey's World Cup Qualifiers after its last pool match against Malaysia concluded in a 5-5 tie.

India comes in second place with 12 points, trailing only the Men in Green, who have yet to lose in the competition.

Rana Abdul Waheed scored three goals in the team's last group game against Malaysia, compared to Mohammad Murtaza and Abdul Rehman who each scored one for the men in green.

For Malaysia, Din Muhammad scored twice, Mat Syarman once, Anuwar Akhimullah once, and Ishak Arif once.

On the points standings, Malaysia came in third, followed by Bangladesh, Oman, and Japan, who came in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Men in Green trounced India and Bangladesh by scores of 5-4 and 15-6, respectively, the day before.

The Pakistani team is joined by manager Major Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan and head coach Olympian Wasim Feroze.

The Elite pool includes Bangladesh, Japan, Oman, Malaysia, Pakistan, and India. In Hong Kong In the Challenger pool, China, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran will compete.

The first crossover matches will be contested between the lowest two teams in the elite pool and the top two teams in the challenger pool following the conclusion of the teams' pool matches. The teams in third and fourth position of the elite pool will be the opponents for the winners of these two bouts in the second round of crossover matches.

In the semi-finals, the top two finishers from the elite pool will compete against the winners of the second crossovers.

The bronze medal game will feature the eliminated semifinal teams, and the winner, along with the other two finals, will earn a spot in the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024.
