According to information released on Saturday, Raja Riaz, a former opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA), joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after meeting with the party's leader Nawaz Sharif in London.

Prior to his meeting with the PML-N leadership in London, Riaz made a suggestion that he would run for office from Faisalabad in the 2018 general elections. It is not necessary that a decision [in this regard] be taken today, he added, adding that the issue would be reviewed with the PML-N leader.

In response to a query, he stated that the PML-N has a sizable support base in Pakistan because people think the party is responsible for the nation's creation. He insisted that upon his return, the PML-N leader will have a heraldic welcome. Nawaz, who has previously was disqualified in 2017 by the Supreme Court for failing to declare a payable income. He has been living in self-imposed exile in London since November 2019 due to health issues. On September 12, the former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that "Nawaz Sharif will reach Pakistan on October 21." The former opposition leader responded to a different question by predicting that elections will probably take place in mid-February of the following year.
