Seeing Bob Marley's wife Rita Marley sitting in a car while someone sneaks up behind her and aims a gun to her head is one of the most terrifying scenes in Bob Marley: One Love.

It's a startling scene that highlights a love tale and commitment that will aptly have its Valentine's Day theatrical debut.

The movie centers on the years 1976–1978, which were turbulent years for Jamaican artist and international celebrity Nesta Robert Marley.

The love story he had with Dr. Alferita Marley, or Rita, his now-widowed wife, is a recurrent topic in the movie.

Most people are aware of how much Bob Marley accomplished in his 36 years.

But up until now, maybe only he and his closest friends knew how crucial the Marley dynasty matriarch was to his career.

Rita Marley, who travels with him for most of the film, doesn't say much, but her presence is palpable.

In flashbacks, they are filmed in iconic Jamaican locations including Port Royal and the pier where Bob and Rita shared their first kiss. Their younger selves are shown getting together and falling in love.

Rita Marley is credited as a producer, and the film's devotion to authenticity and attention to detail feels like a kind of love letter from her to him.

Rita was a member of the I-Threes, a trio of vocalists who became a vital component of the Wailers' style when they joined in 1974. Later on, she developed a solo artist career.

As in real life, Bob Marley is the main character in the film, but the central characters are two persons.

"In many ways, this is the Bob and Rita Marley story," asserts filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green.

It's a tale that concerns them both.

"She is the backbone of Bob's path.
