ISLAMABAD: On Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi in a case involving an attack on the federal capital's judicial complex.

 

The bail request for the former chief minister of Punjab was approved by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain in exchange for a Rs20,000 surety bond.

 

Despite the Lahore High Court (LHC) clearly prohibiting the government from arresting the PTI president earlier that day, the PTI president was detained by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for hours after his release.

Judge Zulqarnain had previously dismissed the prosecution's motion for a 10-day physical remand and instead remanded the PTI leader to Adiala jail on a 14-day judicial remand. Elahi's attorney, Sardar Abdul Razzaq, informed the court during the hearing that his client's name was included in the first information report (FIR) six months after it was submitted. The Elahi attorney argued that his client should be given bail because others, including PTI Chairman Imran Khan and party leader Asad Umar, had already received it in the same case. be granted bail as well.

 

However, the plea for bail was rejected by the prosecution.

 

Elahi was not mentioned in the FIR, according to attorney Babar Awan, who also stated that the police were unable to find anything during the three-day physical remand.

 

Awan continued, "Parvez Elahi was detained on the basis of suspicion."

Elahi's bail application was approved by the ATC court after hearing the arguments.
