At least 57 prison guards and police officers were taken hostage by inmates in six jails after two car bombings and grenade attacks that took place in Ecuador's capital city, Quinto, on Thursday, according to officials.

The police raid on jails the day before was thought to be the cause of the prison insurrection, which was thought to be revenge. Even though no casualties were mentioned, it looked that organized crime organizations were using force in the series of attacks.

According to AFP, the two car bombs were targeted at the SNAI prison authority and one exploded outside of its headquarters and the other outside of a structure that had previously housed SNAI offices.

According to SNAI, prisoners in six jails around the nation managed to apprehend seven police officers and fifty prison guards after hours had passed.

At a press conference in the nation's capital Quito, Interior Minister Juan Zapata stated, "We are concerned about the safety of our officials."
